Call Answered: Carolee Carmello Interview: 10 Things You Don’t Know About This Two-Time Tony Nominated Actress
Jun 14, 2009With the voice of an angel, one could listen to forever, it's quite appropriate that Two-Time Tony Nominated Actress, Carolee Carmello just achieved Theatre Immortality on May 19, 2009 with her own caricature at Sardi's Restaurant.
In this interview, Carolee answered my call to share:
- The highest and lowest note she can sing
- If there ever was a time she thought about quitting performing
- Her favorite kind of sundae
- Her favorite kind of shoes
- So much more
1. Who inspired you to become a performer? I never really knew I wanted to be a performer. I did listen to the 2 Broadway cast albums my parents had in the house: West Side Story (the movie) and The Sound of Music (the movie). I also loved the movie musicals that were shown on TV once a year: Cinderella, 1776, The Sound of Music. But, I didn't really imagine doing it myself. It never occurred to me.
2. What is the highest and lowest note you can sing? I don't know...I belt to about an E or F....although, I have done shows where it was higher (Urinetown....crazy!). My legit soprano doesn't get used as much....I once played "Amalia" in She Loves Me and had to sing that note at the end of "Vanilla Ice Cream" (I think it's a B?) and before that I was an understudy for "Cosette" in Les Miz and went on all of once in a year....she sings that high C at the end of Act I....not my prettiest note.
3. Is there ever a time you thought about quitting? Definitely! There was a time when I was unemployed and I took the civil service exam for New York State to try to change careers and another slow period when I was preparing to take the LSAT test to go to law school. Nowadays, I still think about it, even when I'm working.

4. Do you have any strange or unusual talent that no one knows about? Well, I do have a degree in Business Administration....that sometimes surprises people. Like I said, I never really planned to go into this business.
5. Who is the one person you haven't worked with that you would like to? Hannah Montana!!!
6. Favorite kind of shoes? I may be the only woman on the planet who doesn't really care about shoes....I like my New Balance running shoes :)
7. What skin care products do you use? Mostly Clinique stuff.
8. Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts? What do you order? I go to Starbucks 'cause they're everywhere, but I order TEA....I don't really like their coffee...too strong...I'm a wimp.
9. Favorite kind of sundae (ice cream flavor & toppings)? Where I grew up (upstate New York) there is a little chain of ice cream stores called Stewart's and my favorite sundae of all time is their "make-your-own sundae." You can put all the toppings on that you want, even when there's no more ice cream in the bowl. I get vanilla ice cream and cover it with butterscotch, fudge, marshmallow, and tons of chopped peanuts! OMG ... I want one right now!
10. What website do you get your news from? Actually, I don't use the computer much...In fact, I hope I can figure out how to send this e-mail!
