1. This spring you are once again returning to Joe's Pub with your brand new show Shame Spirals. You seem to have a new show every year. How long does it take you to write a show...from idea to fruition? I am always working on new stories that are based on my experiences. For example, I have started performing on gay cruises for a week at a time every couple of months. Those have been really great experiences and out of them come new stories.
I also sometimes pop in an old story that I tried out maybe four years ago that didn’t quite land. I want to make it work and change up the story a bit until it’s solid. I also have a list of songs that I want to sing, but I never want to sing them unless they help the joke or help tell the story. I’m so grateful to Joe’s Pub for being such a wonderful artistic home where I can try out new things!
2. One cool thing about Shame Spirals is that it is your first show at Joe's Pub as a member of their Joe's Pub Working Group. How did you become part of this group? I’m so thrilled to be a part of this group! I applied last year and I had to articulate the kinds of goals I wanted to achieve. It’s such perfect timing because I have started performing more outside of NYC and I had my own goals that I wanted to achieve but really needed the guidance to do so. Working Group has provided me with that.
3. What has this group done for you that you feel you were lacking prior to being in it? This is a tough business and having a place to turn to if I have questions about contracts, if I need advice on things, it’s been a really great place to grow as an artist.
4. Since the show is called Shame Spirals, what is the biggest thing you are ashamed of, about yourself, that you feel has made all your other bad decisions spiral? I tend to spiral about minor things when vodka is involved. Sometimes I say things I shouldn’t, or for example, in this upcoming show, I discuss an experience I had recently performing on a gay cruise and how maybe I shouldn’t have explored certain areas of the ship! If you know what I mean!

5. You have an unconditional love of vodka. What is one thing vodka has made you do that afterwards you were like, "I can't believe you made me do that, but I love you vodka, I forgive you."? My whole adult life is filled with those moments! One time I left my purse in the back of a cab and I called 911 instead of 311. The 911 operator politely said “M’am you need to hang up and call 311.” That was vodka’s fault.
6. What do you feel is considered to be your "Fan Favorite" story? I have found that my story about going to Jail is a fan favorite and afterwards everyone is constantly asking me if it’s true….yes it’s true. It was the longest seven hours of my life!
7. What is the most harsh reaction you've gotten from someone after a show? Interesting you should ask this because just last month I had an experience when I took one of my shows to London. I’ve played there three times now and absolutely love it! However, this past trip, I told some stories about the gay male influence in my life…which has been constant since I was eight-years-old. While the reviewer enjoyed the show, she said she was disappointed that I was stereotyping gay men. Which, I have to say, was hilarious because the stories I told were TRUE STORIES! But, not everyone is going to come on the journey with you. I’ve been very lucky to have so many people enjoying my stories. You can’t win them all!

8. You just started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to take Shame Spirals to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. First, where can people donate money to for this campaign? My Kickstarter launches on Tuesday, April 10, 2018! I’m excited and anxious. It’s my first time doing crowdfunding and I really want it to be successful. Once I have a link I’ll share it with you so you can tweet it out!!
9. Why do you want to bring your show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival? Edinburgh is the biggest arts festival in the world and will be a huge international platform for me and my show. I’ll be performing the entire month of August. I think this is a perfect next step in expanding my audience base and performing on a more international level. It’s been a goal of mine for a while and I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity. I hope that everyone that’s been so supportive of my shows over the years will enjoy the rewards I’m providing on Kickstarter and give what they can!
10. If you could invite five people over to drink vodka all night and make poor life choices with, who would you call? I’m a sucker for funny people. Out of the five people I would want to drink with, only two are alive, so I would totally settle for them. Sarah Silverman, Tiffany Haddish, Elaine Stritch, Joan Rivers, and Carrie Fisher. UGH what a dream that would be!!
